Welcome to lucasthebaker.

Kō Luke Baker toku ingoa. I’m a cook, writer and multidisciplinary artist working in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa.

I stand with a foot in many disciplines – food, performing and installation arts, gardening, sustainability – but the throughline for my practice always seems to center around what we put in our mouths and where it comes from.

This site is a new home for the recipes that I’ve been writing and testing for years, essays on food and the nature of eating, and my creative projects.

Fundamentally I am a cook at heart. Not a chef; not anything fancy. Just a late twenty-something dude who’s been getting people excited about food since his teens. I am also an artist, and I’m leaning into what it means to bring my experience in the māra kai and the kitchen into my creative practice.
